What is a podcast?
I’ll admit about a year ago I didn’t listen to podcasts or even really understand what they were. Podcasts in very basic terms is talk radio available via the internet. You can find them all over the place, but iTunes still holds the title of king when it comes to finding and subscribing to podcasts. Don’t think they have anything to offer to you? Well you can find podcasts about pretty much everything, from knitting to video games, from business marketing to politics and news, something for everyone. So why is it important to know about podcasting and how can it help you in your Social Media Marketing?
Your voice is heard
You are no longer words in a post or tweet; you are now the voice in their ears. It adds a greater personal level to your marketing. People will be able to feel like they know you more when they can hear your voice and how your personality is. They feel like they become your friends, it’s true, and with this new found friendship they will want to know about the other things you do, which will drive people to your sites and increase your conversions. Becoming more personable and social with your podcast is a great way to have better conversions to your site.
Podcasting has become one of the greatest ways to conduct interviews. You no longer just read the words and try to interpret how and why something is being said, you can now hear how the questions are asked and the answers are given. You will build your brand and presence when you start to interview others involved in your field of marketing. You will bring your audience and theirs at the same time, driving even more people to your site. So become an expert in your field and start interviewing other experts.
Podcasts allow you to talk to your customers in a new and exciting way. You can have your customers write an email with a question and then you can answer on your podcast, or you can even go the extra mile and do a live podcast and have a chat room where you can answer questions live and right away. Creating a greater personal relationship with your customers, this builds trust and appreciation. When reading someone’s email or replying to their comment in the chat, you make them feel that their comments and opinions matter to you and your company, as they should, because it is the people that determine a company’s reputation in most circumstances. Now you are letting the people’s voice be heard.
Your presence will be increased when doing your podcast, not only because you and your company are in more areas on the web, but it increases your brand’s presence as an authority figure. With a podcast you are telling people that, “We have something to say, so we are going to say it, literally.” People love a company that is straight forward and tells them when something is going on within the company and things that are important for the customer to know. When telling people in your own voice instead of just in words, it adds power to it. Then the people know that it is really coming from your mouth and not from someone else. By having you voice heard in the ears of others, you become an authority figure.
Having a podcast and listening to them is just plain fun. You get to have a good time talking and expressing yourself about something you love, care, and have a passion for. People are going to notice your passion and that you are having fun, because of this people are going to have fun as well and hopefully gain that same passion you have.
So in the end your podcast will generate more people to find you and that will lead to conversions. Plus it’s fun.
