What is a growth loop?
A growth loop is a cycle in which the results of one customer's actions bring in new users or more activity, which then feeds the loop again. Each turn adds to the next, so growth can build on itself.

How a growth loop works
A loop starts with an input, such as a new user or a piece of content. That input creates an output, like a referral, a shared post, or a page that ranks in search, and the output brings in the next input.
A content loop is one example: users create content, search engines index it, new users arrive through search, and some of them create content as well.
Growth loop versus funnel
A funnel moves people in one direction, from awareness to purchase, and it needs fresh traffic at the top all the time. A loop recycles its own output, so each cycle can feed the next with less outside spend.
Most businesses use both. Funnels describe how people convert, and loops describe how growth might compound.
Common types of loops
Examples include referral loops, user-generated content loops, paid loops where revenue funds more acquisition, and sales-led loops built on customer references. Each depends on a product or offer that people want to share or return to.
Common questions
What is an example of a growth loop?
A referral program is a simple one. Customers invite friends, the friends become customers, and those customers invite more people.
Can paid advertising be part of a growth loop?
Yes. In a paid loop, revenue from new customers funds more advertising. It works when customers repay their acquisition cost quickly enough to keep reinvesting.
How do you measure a growth loop?
Track the conversion rate at each step and the time one cycle takes. If each turn produces more than the last, the loop is compounding.
Do growth loops replace the marketing funnel?
No. They add to it. The funnel explains how people become customers, and the loop explains how those customers help bring in more.
