What are AI Overviews?
AI Overviews are AI-generated summaries that Google shows at the top of some search results. They answer a query directly and include links to pages the summary draws on, so users can read more.

How AI Overviews work
Google generates the summary from information across the web and displays it above the usual results for certain searches. It includes links to supporting pages, which gives sites a chance to be seen and clicked.
Whether a summary appears depends on the query, and Google changes how and when it shows them. Treat any specific rollout detail as something to verify.
What AI Overviews mean for your site
When a summary answers the question on the results page, some people won't click through. That can lower clicks for informational searches, even when your page ranks well.
Being one of the linked sources helps. Clear answers, accurate facts, good structure, and the same quality signals that support SEO are the best place to start.
Common questions
Do AI Overviews replace regular search results?
No. They appear above or alongside the standard results for some queries. The usual links, ads, and other features are still shown.
How do I get my site into AI Overviews?
There's no switch to turn on. Publish helpful, accurate, well-organized content that Google can crawl and index, and make sure your pages are eligible to appear in search with a snippet. Sites are included by default, and owners can opt out with the Search generative AI setting in Search Console.
Can I see AI Overviews data in Google Search Console?
Yes. Search Console's Generative AI performance report shows impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page, country, device, and date. The report may not appear if your site hasn't had enough impressions in these features.
Are AI Overviews the same as featured snippets?
No. A featured snippet quotes a single page. An AI Overview is generated text that draws on multiple sources and links to them.
