What is exit rate?
Exit rate is the percentage of views of a page that ended a visitor's session there. To find it, divide the number of exits from the page by the page's total views, then multiply by 100.

How to calculate Exit rate
Divide the exits from a page by that page's total views, then multiply by 100.
Percentages in this equation use numeric percent values: 40 means 40%.
Exit rate vs. bounce rate
Every bounce is an exit, but not every exit is a bounce. Exit rate counts any view of a page that was the last in a session, even if the visitor browsed other pages first.
In GA4, bounce rate is the share of sessions that were not engaged, even though an engaged session can have just one page view.
When a high exit rate is a problem
Some pages are supposed to be last: an order confirmation, a thank-you page, or a contact page after a call. High exit rates there are normal.
A high exit rate on a page in the middle of a conversion path, such as a cart or pricing page, deserves a closer look. Check the page for friction, slow loading, or missing information.

Common questions
How do you calculate exit rate?
Divide the exits from a page by its total page views, then multiply by 100. For example, 250 exits from 1,000 views is a 25% exit rate.
What is a good exit rate?
It depends on the page. Confirmation pages naturally have high exit rates, while a checkout step should have a low one. Compare similar pages and watch for changes over time.
Is exit rate the same as bounce rate?
No. Exit rate measures page views that were the last in a session. GA4 bounce rate measures sessions that were not engaged.
How do you reduce exit rate on a key page?
Find out why people leave using recordings, heatmaps, or feedback. Then fix unclear content, slow loading, or missing next steps, and test the change.
