What is the local pack?

The local pack is the block of search results that shows a map and a short list of businesses near the searcher, with details like ratings, hours, and directions. It appears for searches with local intent.

How the local pack works

Google shows the local pack when it decides a search has local intent, such as "dentist near me" or "plumber in Austin." The listings come from Google Business Profiles.

Because it sits near the top of the page, it can capture a lot of attention from nearby customers.

What affects local pack rankings

Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance, and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search, distance is how far you are from the searcher, and prominence is how well known your business is.

A complete profile, accurate categories, consistent business details, and good reviews all support these factors.

Common questions

How do I get into the local pack?

Claim and fully complete your Google Business Profile, keep your details consistent across the web, and earn genuine reviews. You also need to be relevant and reasonably close to the searcher.

Is the local pack the same as local organic results?

No. The local pack is its own block drawn from Google Business Profiles. Local organic results are the regular website listings that appear below it.

Can I pay to be in the local pack?

The organic listings in the local pack can't be bought. Google Ads with location assets can appear in or near the local pack as ads labeled Sponsored.

Why do I appear in the local pack for some locations but not others?

Distance is a ranking factor, so results change based on where the searcher is. A business may rank well near its address and poorly farther away.
